Nas Celebrates Rap Career on Cover of XXL

For it's latest issue, XXL has turned the spotlight on Nas, who reflects for the magazine on the 20th anniversary of his breakout verse on "Live at the Barbecue" by Main Source. Joining the rap veteran for the special occasion is a young hip hop phenom, Tyler, the Creator. In the profile, the Odd Future misfit plays the role of interlocutor on behalf of XXL. When asked by Tyler whether or not he's happy with himself when he wakes up in the morning, Nas was particularly earnest and well considered. Dawg, I was naming my album Life Is Good because of how happy I am about how happy things have turned out,” he said. “Sometimes I may wake up and wish my kids were living with me. That’s the only thing, you know what I mean? Our loved ones that are not around no more, like my mom. That’s the only thing. But other than that, everything is great, even when I’m alone. Even when there’s no one around. A humorous moment in the interview came when Tyler, who was born in 1991— the year Nas started rapping, revealed his unconventional picks for his favorite of the Queensbridge MC's nine LPs, God’s Son is my favorite album by you,” Tyler said. “And my second is probably Street’s Disciple,” he continued.

Get the f*** outta here,” Nas responded.

The November issue of XXL hits stands October 25.
